This week’s SteelSmash’s Exclusive Interviewed is no other than, the Italian rider, Simone Barraco! Simone’s reputation has been growing tremendously on the BMX Scene Worldwide lately due to his incomparable smoothness and stylish riding, his impressive street technique in such a young age… We got the chance to make a little interview with him, so we ask him a few questions…

SteelSmash: How did you start riding?
Simone Barraco: I saw a bmx\mtbiker in my town, Alberto Accettulli (now film maker), riding street and i just loved the lifestyle and the bunny barspin that he was trying… So i went home and asked my father a bmx, my father loves ride bikes too so he just said ok!
SS: Do you still remember your first BMX? What about your first Sponsor?
SB: Yeah i still have it in the garage.. it was a white GT Bikes, then every month i was painting something in different colors!
My first sponsor was FRONTOCEAN.COM the best bmx distributor in Italy… I was riding for one year and i have been to my first contest in Italy.. I was 16 and i got 3th in the Amateur class, then Roby (Frontocean boss) came to me and… I still thanks him a lot!
SS: Since you’re still 19, what do you want to do in your future?
SB: I don’t know… really… Now I’m in Barcelona, but in one month i’ll be back in Italy… I’ll try to find a shitty work, to do something and ride as much as i can… I don t really know about the fuuuttuuurrreeeee.
SS: What’s your professional situation right now? (Studying? Working? Or just Riding?)
SB: In Barcelona i’m just riding… Is a good life but i’m gonna try to find a stupid work as my friends in Italy… I need it.
SS: What’s the history behind the nickname “Kid”?
SB: When i started ride, the other riders from Genova didn’t know my name and they were call me bambino(kid in Italian) cause i was looking like a 11 years old but i was 15… Then they translate it in english and almost everyone still call me like this… but i like it.
SS: First and last trick that you’ve learned?
SB: First tricks were No Footed, X-Up and Feeble Grind… the last i don’t remember…
SS: In your opinion, what’s the best thing about BMX?
SB: I love to stay all day around the city with all my friends, riding, eating and having lots of fun!!! Travel is so good and the events are always fun!
SS: You’ve been growing a lot on the BMX Scene Worldwide, with your Edit’s, especially with that last one for Shadow Pro Team, you just left everyone “shocked” with your Stylish Tuck-no-hander’s, sweet barpsin’s and tailwhip’s… Who were (are) your biggest influences in BMX?
SB: Thanks man, I don t know, i changed lots of idols since i started riding… Lots of riders and videoparts influenced my riding…
SS: How did you become part of the Shadow Team? (First, Skeleton Crew, and more recently, Pro Team?)
SB: The Skeleton Crew is about subrosa, it’s like the Flow Subrosa Team, where i’m riding for one year… The Shadow Conspiracy just added me straight to the international team, i didn’t know it and i was too happy to see my name in the pro list
SS: Recently, you’ve been in Portugal for Rebel Jam. What’s your opinion about Portugal, as place to Ride and Live?
SB: Tt was fun! Good weather, gooooodddd partys, goood event… If the weather is good, i would like to live everywhere with the right friends!!!! So it s a good place to live… if the weather is good i think everywhere is possible to find street spots or something to ride with friends… so it’s also a good place to ride! I wanna come back!
SS: What’s the best memory you’ve taken from Portugal?
SB: Saturday night Monster and Vodka party! ahah
SS: If you could load up a Van with riders to ride with, who would you bring and where would you go?
SB: My ROT66 Crew from Genova (fefe, fede, maxo, thom, andre, paul, box..) but i would like a huge bus to bring lots of other friends from Italy and not! The place is not too important.. i’ll let decide “il buon vecchio fefe”
SS: Tell us something people might not know about you.
SB: We have one of the best food in Italy but i prefer to eat in fast foods with friends!
SS: Other things besides BMX?
SB: I like the graffiti worlds, skateboarding world…
SS: Any upcoming projects for 2011?
SB: I just wanna have fun, filming, riding street with friends and travel to new places!
SS: Thanks, anything you wished to add before we wrap this?
SB: I wish you can understand my fucking bad english (next life i’m gonna study more at school) and i wish you all to have fun this new here more than the last one!!!!!!
